More information on exfoliation and the plastic microbead ban

Exfoliation stimulates the natural process of desquamation, the shedding of the outer layer of skin. The number one benefit of using a cosmetic scrub is that the skin instantly seems smoother and silkier. Another advantage of exfoliation is that it allows other cosmetic products like lotions and oils to better penetrate the skin.

Although numerous varieties of exfoliants are available on the market, most of these additives are literally flushed down the drain and end up in  sewers, septic tanks and ocean life. Therefor, as of 2015, the cosmetic industry has been phasing out plastic microbeads and many countries have already introduced a ban; a global ban will come into effect in 2020.

D5 alternatives

Caldic offers a broad range of D5 alternatives, like linear silicones, esters and all sorts of oils such as mineral-, vegetal-, and organic oil. Contact our specialist or download the solution sheet on the right to see our D5 alternatives.

More information on D5 (Cyclopentasiloxane)

Cyclopentasiloxane, also known as D5, is widely used in cosmetic products due to its functions as antistatic, emollient, humectant, solvent, viscosity controlling and hair conditioning agent.  According to upcoming restrictions (2020) of usage of cyclopentasiloxane in rinse-off applications for Europe, formulators are focusing on formulation with sustainable alternatives to D5.
